CEMENT RENDERING

PROCEDURE – MODERN METHOD

1. Make up mix:
   
   • 90 Litres sand
   • 40KG builders cement
   • 10KG lime or builders clay
   • 70 Mils admixture
   • Water
   
   NOTE: This is a typical mix design and may need to vary according to available sands.
   
   
2. Spray directly to surface – up to six floors high and 80 metres of material line.
3. Immediately trowel off – rough finish OK
4. Using vibrating straight edge, straighten surface and respray hollows if any.
5. Allow for part initial set – nominally one hour – varies with temperature.
6. Using powered float, float off surface.
7. Sponge or steel finish as per specification.

PROCEDURE – TRADITIONAL METHOD

1. Make up mix
2. Barrow to application area – or – in the case of external walls – normally rope and pulley bucket etc.
3. Hand trowel to wall.
4. Allow to initial set.
5. Straight edge and cut surface.
6. Trowel fill hollows.
7. Hand float off.
8. Sponge or steel trowel finish.
9. Pick up droppings and remix.
10. Apply remixed droppings to less critical areas – bathroom tile backing etc.

MODERN METHOD BENEFITS

2. No cutting, remixing or re-application.
3. Less effort to straighten wall.
4. Less effort to float off.

SECONDARY BENEFITS OF MODERN METHOD

1. No shrinkage, cracking or drumminess.
2. Job completed far quicker – pleases the builder, and your accountant.
3. Because of far less physical effort required, better staff attracted and just as importantly young people are more likely to enter the trade.
